Trapani-Birgi Airport

Trapani airport also known as Trapani-Birgi Airport is the third busiest airport in Sicily. It opened in the year 1960, first as a military base but then expanded into a civilian air traffic centre with independent runways. This airport is situated 13 kilometres south west of Trapani and sees an average of 500,000 passengers get in and out the airport every year.

Trapani Airport also handles a few of the low cost connecting flights and has become the low cost hub in Sicily. The airport operates flights to many European destinations, including London, Malta, Barcelona, Milano, Bari and many others. Airlines that fly to and from Trapani include budget airline Ryanair, Meridiana and Levrierofly. Ryanair Trapani airlinesand Meridiana operate flights on a daily basis.

Most of the flights here are affordable and services are efficient with minimal congestion, involving short procedures such as quick baggage claims which are an added benefit at this airport. Airport transfers and airport car hires and private shuttle bookings may be arranged. Trapani airport is the ideal stop for large groups travelling together to Sicily, as its facilities ensure their safety ease of travel.

Alternatively travellers can easily rent a car at the arrivals hall at Trapani airport. During 2009, extensive work had been undertaken to increase the number of boarding gates, expand parking area and improve levels of operational and security aspects.
